Opportunities ahead
published: Saturday | January 8, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

INTERESTING TIMES are ahead with regard to Jamaica entering into the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) among others in 2005.

With the implementation of a single market among the member-states of the Caribbean Community, we will now see goods and services, people, capital and technology freely in circulation across the region.

Therefore, for example, moving goods or services, capital or people from Barbados to Jamaica will be no different from moving them across the parishes of Jamaica itself.

Jamaicans and people from the other member-states of the Caribbean Community should be gearing up for the enormous economic opportunity that is coming on stream from this venture.

The Government also should use this opportunity to enhance the development of financial independence for the people to add to our already political independence.

I am, etc.,
