published: Tuesday | January 11, 2005

VERONA CARTER

THE RITZ-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort, located in Montego Bay is to host a celebration of Caribbean cuisine today.

In attendance will be general managers from the various Ritz-Carltons in the region, regional directors, vice presidents and executive chefs.

Speaking to The Gleaner yesterday, The Ritz-Carlton's regional director of Public Relations, Miss Verona Carter said: "This is basically a celebration of Caribbean cuisine depicting all the unique dishes from each island where we operate from namely: Cancun,St. Thomas, Grand Cayman, San Juan and Jamaica. With the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman recognized in Food&Wine magazine this month, as one of the most anticipated openings of the year we also want to use this opportunity to give a sense of place of what one can expect when the resort opens this autumn."

This 365 room hotel with an additional 69 residences is expected to come in at a cost of around US$400 million.

Commenting on the outlook for the Ritz-Carlton's Caribbean operations this year, Miss Carter said: "The winter season got off to a wonderful start at Rose Hall and we are anticipating a very strong season. I know that at a number of our sister properties in the Caribbean we are completely sold out until June. I have also noticed a few more Europeans travelling to the region. We really need to capitalise on the strength of the European currencies."
