Phillips to launch campaign
published: Wednesday | January 12, 2005

Omar Anderson, Gleaner Writer

DR. PETER Phillips, People's National Party (PNP) vice-president and East Central St. Andrew Member of Parliament, will be launching his campaign for leadership of his party at a function later this evening, sources say.

PNP sources told The Gleaner that the launch of Dr. Phillips' presidential campaign is veiled in a neatly done invitation sent to media personnel and others, regarding a "community projects competition awards".

Yesterday, Dr. Paul Robertson, an important member of Dr. Phillips' campaign team, downplayed the significance of this evening's event.

"I don't have a comment," he replied to Gleaner queries regarding the true nature of the event.

Entitled 'Working Together to Build Our Community and Develop Our Nation', the invitation notes that the event is to begin at 7 p.m. at Little Theatre on Tom Redcam Avenue in Kingston.

Finance Minister Dr. Omar Davies, PNP Region Three chairman and another leadership contender, launched his presidential bid late last year.
