Disregard for youths on buses
published: Saturday | January 15, 2005
THE EDITOR, Sir:I WOULD like to express my view on the disregard for our youths on the buses on the holidays and when they are out of uniform. I hope this letter will reach to the Transport Authority's hearts if not their minds as trivial as the public may think it is.
I could not help but notice the change that was given to a young man that I knew was below the adult age after he had given the conductress on the bus travelling on Hope Road on Saturday the 8th of January. The young man was charged as an adult. Now I do not know if that's the procedure but I think it is unfair and wrong. These are the things we need to pay attention to and gain the respect of the youths. Respect their ages regardless if it means they have to show identification cards on the buses. We need to treat our children as children and regard them so. I mean no harm to the conductress as maybe she does not know what to charge teenagers below 18 years but please educate them and let's be fair.
My life is hard and I am fairly educated, working and have no children as yet, much less these children and their parents who may have it just as hard or harder. Too many times these "little" injustices go by while authorities turn a blind eye.
I am, etc.,
