WESTERN BUREAU:
FAVOURITES SEBA United took over sole leadership of Zone Two of the Captain's Bakery Western Confederation Super League on Saturday following a 2-0 win over Lacers of Trelawny, in the second game of a double-header at Jarrett Park.
The game was part of the fixtures that marked the start of the return round.
Former national Under-23 player, Wilfred Smith, continued his bright start as he scored both goals, one in either half to increase his tally to three in just two games and take the End-of-first-round champions to 15 points.
Jamaica National Federation Cup qualifiers Salt Spring slipped to third place after they were held 1-1 by Tomorrow's People at Cornwall College, slipping behind Granville on goal difference, both on 10 points.
In Zone One, Mount Salem stayed in front despite giving up a 2-0 lead and having to settle for a 2-2 draw against Roaring River, while Sandy Bay upset Orange Hill 2-1 for their first win of the season.
Seba followed up their 3-0 beating of Mount Salem in the End-of-Round final with a hard-fought victory over Lacers, one of three clubs still seeking their first win.
Smith gave Seba the lead after 15 minutes with a well-taken goal.
Tino Evans, the Lacers goalkeeper who had an outstanding game, made one error but was made to pay as he rushed way out of his goal to clear a ball on the edge of his box. He got it as far as Smith, who had time to shoot the ball with precision into the empty goal.
SECOND GOAL
Smith's second goal was a well-taken effort that he trapped on his chest from the edge of the six yards box and volleyed home sweetly off the far right-hand post.
Granville moved into second place in Zone Two after their 3-1 win over Petersfield, for their second win.
Mount Salem looked to be cruising to a fourth win after leading Westmoreland team Roaring River 2-0 through goals from Kemoy Hines (32nd) and Oneil Blake (62nd), but goals from Ricardo Francis (68th) and Eric Grant (75th) ensured a share of points.
