Ja hunt fourth win

Brenton Parchment ... set to shine. - File

HIGH-FLYING JAMAICA chase their fourth victory in a row when they take on Guyana in a fourth round Carib Beer Series clash at Kensington Park today.

The Tamar Lambert-led Jamaicans have been riding high all season, winning all three matches played so far, their best start for a long time.

Jamaica have managed wins against Leeward Islands at home and the Windward Islands and regional kingpins and two-time defending champions Barbados away without their top players who are away on international duty in Australia.

COMFORTABLE LEAD

Jamaica sit way out front with the maximum 36 points while Guyana are currently third in the standings with 10 points.

The Kensington pitch, known for its pace and bounce, could force Jamaica to play three fast bowlers along with medium pacer David Bernard Jr. This means Jamaica could make three changes to their final XI for the game, especially with Maurice Kepple and Jerome Taylor out of the team.

Taylor complained of 'tightness' to his back in the game against Barbados, which means either Dwight Stewart and Dwight Washington could make their debuts for Jamaica, while Bevon Brown could be asked to rest. Out-of-form Kepple has been dropped.

Although Taylor's service will be missed, Daren Powell, who bowled superbly in the win over Barbados, has always got a lot out of the Kensington Park pitch, his home ground.

That is not to say spinners will find it difficult to get wickets either as the more experienced ones like Guyana's Neil McGarrell and Mahendra Nagamootoo, both whom have played at the Test level, and, to a lesser extent, Jamaica's own left-arm spinner Nikita Miller, could play big roles.

BATTING TROUBLE

Jamaica's batting has been the one disappointment so far this season but runs should come for the hosts at the small Kensington Park ground over the next four days.

Donovan Pagon and Lorenzo Ingram have amassed big scores at the venue, Lambert is in good nick, David Bernard is at home and the incoming Brenton Parchment, who once represented the club, should also shine which means Guyana could be faced with scores of over 300.

Parchment and Keith Hibbert are expected to open the batting and Jamaica await their first solid start of the season.

On the other hand, Krishna Arjune, Assad Fudadin, Ryan Ramdass and captain Damodar Daesrath will lead Guyana's batting charge while McGarrell, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Imran Jafferally and Daesrath will carry the bulk of the bowling.
