HIGHGATE, St. Mary

THE QUIET, little-known district of Kilancholly, deep in the hills of southern St. Mary, was plunged into a state of shock and grief early yesterday morning when three children, all siblings, were found brutally murdered at their home.

So far, the police have taken into custody one man, a deportee with several addresses in St. Mary and St. Ann, as they continue their investigations into the incident.

The three children, all belonging to one mother, have been identified as 15-year-old Dwayne Davidson, 13-year-old SuAnn Gordon, both students of St. Mary High School, and four-year-old infant school student, Shanniece Williams.

NO SCREAMS

Neighbours and other residents in the district believe the boy and his two sisters were attacked in their sleep because they heard no screams coming from the house and were only made aware of the killings when the mother raised an alarm.

The throats of the three children were slashed and the bodies had multiple stab wounds.

Luckily, a one-year and four-month-old child, who was also in the house, was spared the wrath of the killer(s).

Both the parents of the children and grief stricken residents of Kilancholly are finding it difficult to come to grips with what might have led to this gruesome killing.

Even the police in St. Mary remained baffled as they continue to search for clues as to what would have led to such a wicked act.

MEMORIES

The killings, which have shattered the usually quiet community, has also revived memories of a brutal double murder committed in the area some three years ago involving two relatives of the mother of the children. Those murders are still unresolved.

The gruesome discovery was made some minutes before 1:00 a.m. by the children's mother, Sonia Williams, just as she returned from church where she was assisting in preparations for a luncheon to be held later in the day.

She found SuAnn's body in the yard near the gate of the premises in a pool of blood while the bodies of Dwayne and Shanniece were found inside the house.

Williams immediately raised an alarm and residents, who quickly responded, rushed the three children to the Annotto Bay Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Sub-officer in charge of the Highgate Police Station Sergeant Dwight McPherson said the police believe the killer gained entry to the house by forcing open a window and then made his exist by way of the front door, after committing the act.

Sergeant McPherson said the police are following a number of leads based on calls to the station and reports received from some individuals and that they will continue to pursue the matter to ensure that the culprit is brought to justice.
