More early childhood teachers certified
published: Saturday | February 5, 2005

By Petrina Francis, Education Reporter

CARMEN FRATER, a teacher at Carmel Basic School in Kingston, was a member of a group of 24 early childhood teachers certified on Thursday.

The group graduated with Level 2 certificates in the HEART Trust National Council on Technical Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET) early childhood training course. The training programme was carried out by the Voluntary Organisation for the Upliftment of Children (VOUCH).

Ms. Frater told The Gleaner that she was 'elated' to have been certified at Level 2. She was speaking at the graduation ceremony held at the VOUCH headquarters at National Heroes Circle in Kingston.

She explained that being certified at this level has made her job easier in terms of delivering and implementing improved strategies teaching to her students.

Guest speaker, Senator Burchell Whiteman, minister of information, said, "I am very happy that we have reached this point where the numbers of persons that are qualified at different levels continue to increase so that we are spreading the population of trained and qualified persons across the system."
