Power of nine - Tru-Juice's new vegetable juice provides a lift
published: Thursday | February 24, 2005

THE PRESS release says it helps to alleviate hypertension, aids in the prevention of cancer, diseases of the eyes, skin and colitis. Plus, it's associated with a host of other health benefits -- healthier skin and nails, lower cholesterol ...

Yeah, those are all great. But what really made the men in our newsroom sit up and take notice was our own added tidbit -- that Tru-Juice's newest drink, the Vitalizer, could also give them a rise -- something to stand up and cheer about.

That's all it took to get most of The Gleaner's newsroom male staff to give it a try. So, they came, tasted and got a much needed lift -- at least most of them did, if we go by their comments. (Oh, some of the women tasted it too and also made their pronouncements.)

Tru-Juice Premium Quality Vitalizer vegetable and roots juice -- The Ital Riser! -- has no added sugar. It contains nine vegetables, fruits and roots including parsley, carrot, celery, spinach, beetroot, sorrel, cucumber, apple, and herbs parsley, sarsaparilla and strong back.

SMOOTH OPERATOR

To add a twist to the drink, Senior Gleaner Writer Barbara Ellington took some home. She combined one glass of the Vitalizer with chopped up grapes, pineapple, melon, orange, cantaloupe and mango, and blended them to make a thick smoothie.

"The good thing is that the flavour of the Vitalizer juice was still distinct, and the smoothie was filling," says Ellington.

Here are the comments:

Mi like the flavour, not too sweet. I've been into health juices since start of the year, so it's good.

Tastes refreshing.

Tastes like fruit juice.

I don't like it. It doesn't appeal to my taste buds. It's not refreshing, that is the main thing.

The texture is very rich and the taste belies the fact that it's vegetable juice.

Tastes very smooth -- very refreshing.

In keeping with the current health-conscious trend, it will do well.

It needs to be puréed some more. There's too much sediment.

It's refreshing, smooth, tastes good and it goes right to the root.

Great taste. Love the distinct beet flavour. It makes you feel like you're really having something healthy.

Tastes nutritious, with a distinct carrot and beet flavour, something 'rootsy' too.

It tastes bad, you can taste the 'bush' in it.

The beet root and cucumber are very noticeable, but it's quite nice actually.

Tastes interesting.

I like it. Tastes like a drink that's good for you and healthy.

It tastes spicy and gingery.
