Political motorcades violating the Road Code
published: Thursday | February 24, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON SUNDAY, February 20, from my house along the main road I saw big buses, small buses, SUVs and cars transporting supporters to the Jamaica Labour Party Conference being held in Kingston.

These vehicles were blatantly flouting the Road Code; overtaking traffic willy-nilly; causing major mayhem on the street; and had several persons with half their bodies protruding from the windows.

Mr. Golding, I ask that you start your new term by asking, preaching, cajoling, coercing or even begging the enthusiastic supporters of the party to adhere to the laws of the country when driving. We need to reduce this disregard some have for authority; the contempt some have for each other; and the wanton disregard for citizens and property.

The change we badly need has to come from the top; it will happen. Please, sir, try to be an agent of change in this country. We badly need it.

I am, etc.,

W. SLATER AZAN
