Killings continue in Spanish Town
published: Wednesday | March 9, 2005

By Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN:

FOUR PERSONS were shot dead and two others injured in Spanish Town, St. Catherine in less than 12 hours over the last two days.

The first to die was Stafford Anderson, a 46-year-old vendor of Quarry Hill district in St. Catherine. Mr. Anderson was at home on Monday when three gunmen kicked off his door, drew their weapons and shot him all over his body. He died on the spot.

The second incident occurred about 10 p.m. on the same day when Linval Campbell, a 49-year-old truck driver, and a man known only as 'Joshie', in his early 30s, were shot and killed by a group of gunmen who approached them on foot.

At about 7 a.m. yesterday, residents of the Lakes Pen community in Spanish Town heard gunfire and summoned the police. When the police arrived, a 29-year-old man known as 'Shawn' and 'Force Ripe', who the police say was wanted for a shooting incident, was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

A seven-year-old girl and another man were also shot and injured by the gunmen in the same incident. The two are being treated at the Spanish Town Hospital.

Sub-officer in charge of crime, Detective Sergeant Paul Thomas, told The Gleaner that the murder of Anderson on Monday night might be linked to the Lakes Pen shooting. The man who survived the Lakes Pen shooting is said to be the brother of Anderson.
