THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE WORKING class people in our society must be treated with greater respect overall by those who control the means of production. For too long, the vast number of our industrial, agricultural, service, among other workers in Jamaica continue to get a meagre salary for the work they do. They have to work extremely hard for the pittance they receive as wages considering the high cost of living in these times.
The salary that the average Jamaican gets in modern Jamaica is definitely too small and because of this, they continue to be struggling and living 'hand-to-mouth'.
In 21st century Jamaica, the working class still suffers indignation and difficulties, as they live below their dignity. So many of our working class are beginning to be alienated from society and we can see clearly that this alienation has caused many of them to be turning to crime and violence.
Can't those who control the means of production allow their consciences to override their materialistic nature and think about a raise of pay for the working class in Jamaica?
