HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC:
A BERMUDIAN man wanted by police for almost two years after fleeing to Jamaica has appeared in the Resident Magistrate's Court here on two firearm charges.
Kenith Clifton Bulford, 29, was accused of possessing an unlicensed nine millimetre AP9 pistol, as well as 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition and five 3.75 Magnum bullets some time between March 1 and April 27, 2003.
Bulford, who skipped police bail here, was arrested in late January after a police swoop on a house in Kingston, Jamaica, bringing to an end a 22-month manhunt.
Bulford's deportation was arranged with Jamaican authorities earlier this month and he arrived home on Saturday night on a private jet chartered by the Bermuda police service.
Police Commissioner Jonathan Smith praised the Jamaican Constabulary Force for its high level of cooperation.
Bulford, a prime suspect in a 2003 murder in Bermuda, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable firearms charges. He has been remanded in custody until April 11 when he will reappear in court.
Amid high security, with a number of police officers carrying submachine guns, a handcuffed Bulford was escorted into the court building through a back entrance while no traffic was allowed to pass along large sections of Reid and Parliament Streets.
Bulford appeared before Senior Magistrate Archie Warner sporting a light blue shirt, grey slacks and black shoes.
