Clark's Town seek to clinch Trelawny crown
published: Sunday | April 3, 2005

WESTERN BUREAU:

CLARK'S TOWN will seek to confirm their superiority in the Trelawny FA National Rums of Jamaica Top League this afternoon when they take a 2-0 lead into the return leg final against Preston at the Elliston Wakeland Centre at 3:00 p.m.

Clark's Town have dominated the league all season, winning the mid-season final in a romp 6-0 over Preston before completing the regular season with a five-point lead over Preston and third-place Kinloss.

Coach Alrick Kitchener told The Gleaner after Wednesday first leg that today's game was a mere formality and they will be turning up only because they are duty bound to.

Clark's Town dominated Wednesday's first leg and are expected to score their fourth win in five meetings between the teams this season.

Clark's Town won their first meeting 3-0, then the mid-season finals before the 2-0 win in the first leg while the return round meeting ended 1-1.

The winner will take home the championships trophy plus the first prize of $120,000 and a place in next season's Western Confederation Super League.

ATTACK

Richardo Howell, who scored both goals on Wednesday and leads the league with 17, will spearhead the Clark's Town attack this afternoon along with Yohan Grant, Marlon Stewart and Robert Demetrius.

Preston's coach, Dave Lawkins, says his team will be coming all out for the win today and will be taking the game to the Clark's Town team.

Lawkins blamed indiscipline for their loss on Wednesday and says he sees holes in the Clark's Town team that they hope to exploit today. He said that his players need to believe in themselves and challenge a Clark's Town team which he thinks is weak in defence.

If Preston are to make a match of it today, Corey Merchant, Petroy Waite and Ryan Bolt must step up their games and make use of the chances created.
