Dowdie scores big at US meet
published: Wednesday | May 11, 2005

DOWDIE

FORMER NATIONAL 100 metre champion Peta-Gaye Dowdie turned down competing at last weekend's Jamaica International Invitational to run at the Clemson Orange and Purple Classic in North Carolina and secured a victory.

Dowdie, who won her first and only national title in 2000, took the women's invitational 200 metres in 23.36 seconds, which would have given her fourth at the Jamaica International Invitational.

The U.S.-based Dowdie, who travelled with Jamaica to the Athens Olympics last summer, defeated Valma Bass (23.88) and Randi Hinton (23.95) into second and third.

Jamaican and South Carolina University's Shevon Stoddart (13.78) finished third in the women's sprint hurdles. The race was won by American Olympian Lashinda Demus (13.09).
