Failed state
published: Wednesday | May 18, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IF THE deaths of Maurice Azan and Lloyd Phang in May Pen do nothing else, they should drive home to all segments of the society that no one is safe. Also, it does not matter how fruitful and productive your life as a giver to the community (as was Azan), some strange force in evil will always be there to snuff it out.

Those of us who knew both men know that when Jamaica loses people of that level as contributors to the society then, indeed, despite the touting of growth by the Government, Jamaica is a failed nation-state.

I am, etc.,
