Problems with RGD
published: Thursday | May 19, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I RECENTLY heard Dr. Holness of the Registrar General Dept. (RGD) on KLAS FM on a Tuesday morning speaking to the great work the RGD is doing in regards to registration. I find this to be quite ironic when compared to my experience. To say I am having an extremely frustrating experience would be an understatement.

The registration of my child was done 27/01/05 at the Trevennion Pk. Rd. office where I was told that the process would take approximately six to eight weeks. I have called every week since the tenth week and the only information I have received is that my records are being traced. The Trevennion Pk. Rd. office has assured me that the records were received from the hospital and sent to Spanish Town, and a complaint along with a copy of my receipt has been sent to the Spanish Town office. On speaking to a representative at the Spanish Town office I was asked to fax the said receipt, which I did. Six to eight weeks have now turned to fifteen weeks and counting, and my records are still being traced.

Is this the great work that Dr Holness is referring to? In relating my experience to a nurse at the hospital where my child was born, I was told that this is a common problem that other patients are experiencing.

I am, etc.,

T. GAYLE
