National high jump record holder Germaine Mason and Sherika Williams were the star performers at last Saturday's Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association's (JAAA) Development Meet held at Stadium East.
At a poorly attended meet Mason, in just his second appearance since a 13-month lay-off, leapt 2.20 metres in the men's high jump, in which he was the lone contestant.
Williams blew away a full field to win the women's 400m in 51.72 seconds. The 19-year-old former St. Elizabeth Technical student defeated fellow clubmate Davita Prendergast (53.07) and Allison Beckford of Fortis International (53.66).
Karen Beautle (1.78m) and Suzette Lee (14.34m) also leapt fairly good distances in the women's high and triple jumps respectively. Beautle defeated Vinessa Clarke of MVP (1.70m) in the high jump contested by only two competitors, while Lee was the only entrant in the triple jump.
MVP's Ainsley Waugh won the men's 100m, which included over 40 athletes - the biggest field at the meet - in 10.28 seconds. He defeated GC Foster College's Carl Barrett (10.32) and Curt Watson of MVP (10.33).
World Championship 200m silver medallist Christopher Williams finished 13th in 10.65, while Davian Clarke (11.37) was 31st.
In the women's 100m, Danieth Pryce (11.75) defeated MVP's Judyth Kitson (11.87) and Sasha-Gaye Johnson (13.29) in a field of three.
In the women's shot put where only two competitors entered, Jerine Foster of Fortis International (11.36) defeated her teammate Phelecia Reynolds (10.72).
Camoi Hood, also of Fortis International, won the men's equivalent with a throw of 14.79m. Steve Hammond (14.64m) and Ricardo Page (14.38) finished second and third respectively.
The MVP pair of Kenneth Sylvester (15.94m) and Wilbert Walker (15.84m) finished one-two in the men's triple jump.
In the men's long jump, Orrett Baker (7.17m) defeated Adrian Wiltshire of HPTC/Racers Track Club (6.90m).
Alex Morgan won the men's 800m in 1:56.80 over the GC Foster College pair of Jerome Lawson (1:57.27) and Adrian Simpson (1:57.62).
Isheka Brown (2:27.38) was the lone competitor in the women's 800m, so too was Owen Greaves (2:27.26) in the master's 800m.
Wainard Talbert (15:24.90) defeated Andrew Gutzmore (16:42.90) and Michael Alexander (18:.03.80) in the men's 5000m, contested by only three athletes.
