Stacy-Ann begins quest for spelling bee glory
published: Wednesday | June 1, 2005

PEARSON

JAMAICA'S STACY-ANN Pearson, the winner of The Gleaner's Children's Own Spelling Bee competition will today begin her quest to become the world's top speller when the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee Championship kicks off in Washington, D.C.

Stacy-Ann, who will be without her coach, the Rev. Glen Archer who is ill, will join scores of other children from around the world to compete for the top spot in the championship which will be staged over a two-day period. She is accompanied by her parents as well as The Gleaner's manager of corporate affairs, Karin Cooper.

Her parents, Florence and Wentworth Pearson, are upbeat about their daughter's chances. "She's up to the challenge. She has been able to do what is required. Our assistance at this point is strictly moral support," an enthusiastic Mrs. Pearson told The Gleaner.
