Something has tickled the funny bones of (from left) Mark Myers, general manager of KFC; Joan Swire, maintenance and projects manager, KFC; and Mayor of Kingston Desmond McKenzie. IT WAS red carpet treatment from Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) on Wednesday June 1 as the management and staff celebrated with its partners.
The KFC is celebrating its 30th year in Jamaica and everyone involved in making the franchise a success was feted at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. General Manager Mark Myers said he was humbled by the turn-out which was a sign of true partnership. He thanked all those who provide the goodies that Jamaicans have come to enjoy over the years; from the chicken and fries to the sodas to wash it all down.
Myers opined that the key to success is to work with a focus and with focused people. He felt that the onus was on them to meet and exceed the customer's expectation. To do this, consistent quality supply of ingredients, clean restaurants and good service were essential.
Robert Levy of Jamaica Broilers responded on behalf of the partners and he had nothing but kind words for the Myers family. He quipped KFC for being his company's oldest, biggest and best paying customer. He lauded the Myers for their service to the country.
Library upgrades islandwide; the KFC Quiz Show; sponsorship of various sporting events and positive music shows are just a few of the ways. Good corporate citizens indeed!
And the accolades don't stop there for the fast food giant. Its employee training and human resource management programmes prepare workers for upward mobility and the ability to work in any sector the business demands.
Even representatives from Yum! Restaurants International, the global owner of the KFC brand, were present to celebrate the occasion.
Restaurants of Jamaica (ROJ), started by Lorna Myers and husband Tony (now deceased) opened its first KFC outlet on Hope Road on June 18, 1975. Now three decades later, a 30th store will soon be opened in Port Antonio. The ROJ franchise has even expanded with the opening of five Pizza Hut outlets.
