VILLAGE UNITED ended their Wray and Nephew National Premier League season on a high note yesterday with a 5-1 beating of western rivals Wadadah at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
Nigel Ellis, with a hat-trick which included two controversial penalties, and Leon Irving, with a double, were responsible for the Village goals while Jermaine Andreson pulled one back for the Montego Bay team.
It was not a game with a lot in it and the small number of people who turned up as well as the approach of the players, particularly those from Wadadah, reflected that. They just about went through the motions.
Wadadah coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams blamed the referee for the way the game turned out.
"The referee messed up the game. Raymond Pine messed it up because he was down to do the game and he chose to enjoy himself by watching it," Williams said.
Naturally, Village's Dr Dean Weatherly was happy with the result.
"It is a good way for us to end the season.," he said before adding, "it was a very long season so now it is time for the coaches to sit down with the manager and see where we need to go into the supermarket to look at the goods that we can come up with because next year is a different year."
