PAN AM Volleyball Cup champions Cuba yesterday handed Jamaica's Riddim Girls their fourth consecutive defeat in Santo Domingo, shutting them out 3-0.
Cuba won the first two sets 25-12 before finishing off the Jamaicans 25-11 in the last set.
So far, the girls, who are participating in the Pan Am Volleyball Cup for the first time, have lost to the United States (25-10, 25-16, 25-9), Canada (25-20, 25-11, 25-13), and Mexico (25-21, 25-16, 25-20).
Despite the losses, coach Ortnel Findlay says he has already noticed some positives at the tournament.
"I am very pleased with the guts our young players in Naima Stennett and Shanique Sterling have shown ... It looks good for us," Findlay said via telephone last evening.
Today, the Riddim Girls go up against Caribbean champions Barbados and Findlay reckons this could be Jamaica's chance for their first victory.
"I think we can win it. We stand a very good chance. We videotaped them in the 3-0 loss to Mexico today (yesterday) and it will give us a good idea about how to play them."
Jamaica enter today's games hit by injury as Cheryl Daley, Ptamony Fletcher and Kamille Dwyer are all under the doctor's watch. Fletcher and Daley may play but the doctors have advised that Dwyer not take the court for the remainder of the tournament.
