Down get final shot at George's
published: Sunday | June 19, 2005

Michael McLean, Freelance Writer

SANTA CRUZ:

FORMER SOUTH Central Super League campaigners Down Football Club will today seek to avenge their 2-1 first-leg loss to George's Valley when the teams square off in the second-leg final of the Captain's Bakery Manchester Major League at Brooks Park at 3:00 p.m.

In last Sunday's encounter, Delano Nembhard gave Down the lead in the 37th minute, but his goal was cancelled out just one minute into the second half by Alrick Swimmers. Trace McFarlene booted home the winner for George's Valley in the 51st minute.

DETERMINATION

George's Valley, who are yet to win a major title in Manchester football and were beaten finalists in the inaugural Captain's Bakery Major League last season, seem determined to get their hands on the silverware this season.

Down, who were the 2001-2002 Division One champions and many-time Knockout winners, seem no less determined to regain the trophy.

This year's champion will take home prize money of $175,000 while the runner-up will receive $90,000.
