Imagination at work

THE EDITOR, Sir:
WERE THE Press Association of Jamaica to give an award for imaginative journalism, Tony Myers would win 'hands down' for his piece which appeared in The Sunday Gleaner of June 19, captioned "Davies moves ahead in PNP Presidential race". For only in Myers' fertile imagination is Omar Davies a viable candidate for the presidency of the People's National Party (PNP).
Where Myers deserves the fullest commendation however, is in getting his propaganda piece published, complete with full-length picture of Davies. He even succeeded in being credited with the title of statistician, despite the absence of any real data to support his speculations. When the poll results are next published, Myers, like the rest of us, will discover that there are two separate campaigns being waged, one between Peter Phillips and Portia Simpson Miller for the presidency, and another between Omar Davies and Karl Blythe.
Where Davies leads is in the production of glossy printed material, CDs, videos, staff and all the services that money can buy. What his campaign lacks is delegate support. I challenge Mr. Myers to name one parish where Omar Davies is ahead of Peter Phillips or Portia Simpson Miller in delegate support. For sure, he is not the popular choice among the Cabinet, the Parliamentary group, the Constituency Caretakers or the NEC. This is the political reality in the face of which Mr. Myers is merely "wishing and hoping".
I am, etc.,
