ASAFA POWELL handed over his world record-breaking gears as a memento to his school, University of Technology (UTech) at a reception in his honour at the university's Lillian's Restaurant yesterday.
Powell, now the world's fastest man after his 9.77 clocking at the Athens Olympic Stadium last week Tuesday, made the presentation of the outfit along with his spikes to president of UTech, Dr. Rae Davis.
The world 100m record holder said it wasn't difficult to give away what had lately become his most treasured gears.
When asked if it was difficult to give them away, Powell said: "Not really, because I owe them a lot and this is my token to them."
Olympic relay gold medallist Sherone Simpson, Pan American Championships gold medallists Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Michael Frater and Germaine Mason, were also recognised.
Powell said he was pleased with what UTech has done for him and hopes they will continue.
"I feel good to be here now that they put on this for me. I am really grateful , I just hope they continue supporting me, as I continue to do well," said the world's number one overall male athlete.
