Mayor's promises unfulfilled
published: Friday | July 8, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS IS an urgent letter to the city engineer of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC). Since the building of the Wickie Wackie housing scheme by the NHT, it has diverted a lot of the rain water coming from Bayview Hills to the lake. This diversion is causing too much water to go to the lake resulting in it overflowing its banks. The end result of this is loss of property.

Repeated requests have been made for the lake to be drained but the KSAC has yet to respond to the calls of residents who suffer these ill effects in Ocean Lake, Bull Bay.

After houses in Ocean Lake were flooded by heavy rains associated with Hurricane Ivan, the mayor visited and promised to address the problem by putting in some permanent solutions. The first solution was to remove the illegal car wash that dumped up a part of the lake as well as other solutions. Well, the car wash is still there and we have not seen or heard from the mayor since he made his promises.

I am, etc.,

D. JOHNSON
