Decision on race meet today
published: Friday | July 8, 2005

THE FINAL programme for tomorrow's scheduled race meet at Caymanas Park has been pushed back by 24 hours due to Hurricane Dennis. Declarations will be made this morning inside the Racing Office at Caymanas Park.

Depending on the level of dislocation caused by the hurricane, racing could well be run. An evaluation will be made by Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) today whether to proceed with the meet, but the decision will more than likely depend on the level of flooding and more so the availability of the electrical supply.

Still, contingency plans have been put in place by CTL to minimise the effects of Hurricane Dennis on the Caymanas Park racing complex. The multimillion-dollar tote board has been covered with storm shutters, while drains within the stable area have recently been cleaned to prevent widespread flooding.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Track Price Plus, the island's leading bookmaking company, said it will be open for business on both English and local racing tomorrow. Track Price Plus has taken the precaution to close its outlets today, so English racing is out.

"Our systems usually backs up quickly and as long as there is no dislocation in the power supply, we will be up and running, especially if local racing is given the green light," explained the Track Price spokesman.

Tomorrow's 11-race programme will feature the $400,000-$350,000 claiming race for the J.W. 'Judge' Hardie Memorial Cup over 1600 metres.
