Petrojam oil spill
published: Saturday | July 9, 2005

HEAVY RAINS associated with Hurricane Dennis caused about 50 barrels of oil being stored at the Petrojam Oil Refinery on Marcus Garvey Drive to be released into the Kingston Harbour yesterday.

Each barrel had about 42
gallons of oil. The refinery issued a release stating that as soon as the oil spill was detected, the Oil Spill Response Team was mobilised.

The release said the oil and accumulated debris was collected and disposed of with the help of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA). The statement said no damage was incurred as a result of the oil spill.
