Air Ja names new routes
published: Wednesday | July 20, 2005

LAWRENCE

AIR JAMAICA has cut routes that were losing money and adjusted the frequency of flights on others, said Dr. Vin Lawrence, Air Jamaica's executive chairman.

The company outlined its new schedule of flights at its downtown Kingston headquarters yesterday. Brought back into public hands since December, the airline is being restructured prior to being offered for divestment.

"Air Jamaica is now flying to 10 US cities, 7 Caribbean countries, Toronto and London with approximately 240 flights weekly in the low season and 270 flights weekly during peak season," Dr. Lawrence said. This figure does not include flights between Kingston and Montego Bay.

DAILY FLIGHTS

There will be daily flights to New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Toronto and London.

Weekly, there will be six flights to Newark, Barbados and Grenada. Chicago will have six weekly flights in winter and three in summer.

There will be five weekly flights to Los Angeles and Grand Cayman, and four to Orlando, Curacao and Nassau. The airline will fly three times weekly to Havana and once weekly to Bonaire.

"With the completion of our major maintenance activities, the airline is back on track," Dr. Lawrence said. "We will now intensify our marketing and promotions efforts in Jamaica and the rest of our markets."
