LETTER OF THE DAY - JUTC to post bus timetables across city
published: Saturday | July 23, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

YOU MIGHT have seen a letter to the Editor of The Gleaner on July 21 from Georgia Bryan expressing frustration with the JUTC's lack of posted timetables. We appreciate her annoyance, especially as she already realises that the JUTC is the safest and most economical public transport alternative in the capital.

At this time our passengers would be experiencing our summer schedule which came into effect while the nation was preparing for Hurricane Emily last week. This schedule reduces the frequency between buses on most routes.

We hope that it does not come as cold comfort to say that the company is currently in high gear to design and post timetables at more than 40 locations across the city to meet the new school year. These locations will be the high-use areas, including four separate locations in the Half-Way Tree centre.

In the meantime, passengers who have access to the Internet can visit our website at www.jutc.com.jm where our timetables are posted. Service agents are also within easy reach through our toll-free telephone number 1-888-991-J-U-T-C BUS.

The company understands that to operate as a self-sufficient entity we need to win more customers over to our services. Posting of timetables will show our passengers what we already know from our surveys: we can be reliable. Electronic tracking of units on Route 44 from Meadowbrook to the city centre, and also our on-the-road monitoring of the Route 97 Bull Bay Express, Route 51 Gordon Town to the city centre, Route 16A Greater Portmore to Cross Roads and the Spanish Town to Kingston routes convince us that we can do well. We are having a difficulty keeping schedules on most Portmore routes at this time, such as Route 12, as road and sewage upgrading projects are affecting all traffic travelling through the municipality's centre.

I am, etc.,

GWYNETH HAROLD

Manager, Marketing and Public

Relations, JUTC
