Stop the killings
published: Wednesday | July 27, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT WOULD seem that the world is retrogressing rather than looking forward. Look at what is happening in today's world. The bombings in England have started with innocent lives being lost because of the errors we have all made in the treatment of our fellowmen.

Let us go back a little into history and turn our minds to the crusades started by King Richard. King Richard went out to bring Christianity to the world and in so doing he had to slay Moslems. Then Christians were in charge but the Moslems, too, decided to Moslemise the world and this method of conversion has gone on over the ages. Remember the Inquisition, all done in the name of our blessed Jesus? And then we go back to the creation story in Genesis to find Joseph being sold into slavery by his brothers. Then the rules changed and Joseph was in power and if we would only learn from his example of treating his brothers with love.

Can't the world realise that love of our fellowman is the answer, and that instead of enacting all these draconian laws to keep out the terrorists, the powers that be should look at the root cause of the problem facing all mankind. Can't Moslems, Christians, etc., sit at a table and have dialogue?

We are so busy destroying ourselves that we cannot see the suffering of other peoples. Look at the poor children in Niger dying from starvation. Don't we care? We exhaust ourselves with small wars and cannot see the trees.

May Allah and Jesus speak personally to all the rulers of the world saying enough is enough. You are your brothers' keepers. Desist from all killings; make the world a paradise.

I am, etc.,
