Kerron Ennis 'Can't Live' without God
published: Friday | July 29, 2005

Teino Evans, Staff Reporter

KERRON ENNIS is described by her peers as the next gospel music sensation, as her ability to write songs and perform with conviction are just two of her God-given talents.

Ennis, who started singing at eight years old, has been through the ranks, learning the ropes with each step of the journey.

"I was like eight years old and was singing a song (Let There Be Peace) in church and just how the song blessed people, I was moved to start ministering," Ennis recalled.

TOUCHING LIVES

Since then nothing has stopped Ennis from fulfilling her dream of touching lives through her musical ministry, as she sings at every opportunity.

While attending Merl Grove High School in St. Andrew, Ennis received several musical awards, among them Most Outstanding Student in Music, Excellence in Music and a Special Award in Music.

WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE

She has not limited herself to herself as she has been a member of the Perpetual Praise Team for two years, ministering in every nook and cranny of the island. She says this has brought her a wealth of knowledge and experience.

"It shows me how to minister effectively to people and achieve a higher level of worship," she said.

Ennis also entered the JCDC Gospel Song Competition in 2003 and was placed third in the finals. Her entry then was No Wonder, written by Clifton and Margaret Clarke.

"For me the experience was good because it showed me many things, like how to use the stage properly, among other things," she said.

Ennis has proven herself on the big stage at Fun In The Son in 2005, Genesis 2005 and the JCDC Road Show in Mandeville this year. She also led the Perpetual Praise Team in worship at the launch of the Jamaica Bawl Out 2 series, held at the St. William Grant Park in downtown Kingston last October.

Ennis has done a few recordings, including Daddy Oh with DJ Nicholas and God We Need with Stitchie.

Daddy Oh, she says, was voted number one three consecutive weeks on the LOVE 101 charts and was also voted 'Big Tune' on Roots FM.

She is eying her next big project, her debut album, which she hopes to release by the end of the year.

It may be entitled God Is By Our Side and, according to Ennis, working on the project was a blessing.

"I feel blessed, because God has allowed me to work with some really good people and I'm just expecting great things to come. The album appeals not only to young people but to all age groups. When persons listen, they will feel like they have attained something," Ennis said.

Among her favourite tracks which have already been recorded are Can't Live, which she says, speaks about how her life was meaningless until God turned it around, and My Prayer, which is a song asking God to remake her life. This, Ennis says, should be everybody's prayer.
