Brad Hamilton ... has had a tough time at the World Championships in Montreal, Canada. - NORMAN GRINDLEY/DEPUTY CHIEF PHOTOGRAPHER

AFTER A disappointing five days, Brad Hamilton and Alia Atkinson are still hoping to make an impact on the 11th FINA World Championships in Montreal, Canada, when they swim in their various events today.

Hamilton will start his day attempting to make the semi-finals of the 50-metre freestyle event, before going on to try his hand in the 100m butterfly.

Thus far the young hopeful's attempts have been unsuccessful as he has failed to make it out of the heats in the 50m fly, the 200m freestyle and the 100m freestyle.

Hamilton's best performance so far has been his 68th-place finish in the 100m freestyle, an event that had 124 swimmers facing the starter. His time of 53.50 seconds was 4.53 seconds behind the leading time of the heats.

In the 200m freestyle he was 75th from a field of 94 in a time of 1:58.72 seconds, while in the 50-fly, he was 77th from 104 starters in a time of 26.93 seconds.

Alia Atkinson, who has also taken on a hectic workload at the World Championships, has also been unsuccessful for the most part.

She will compete in the 50m butterfly today, which happens to be her fifth event so far.

Earlier Atkinson was 45th of 62 swimmers in the 200m freestyle, and 36th of 52 swimmers in the 100m breaststroke. In the 100m breaststroke, Atkinson clocked 1:13.21 seconds, while she hit the wall in a time of 2:08.62 seconds in the 200m freestyle.

Yesterday, Atkinson took part in the 100m freestyle, where she was 46th of 79 and the 200m breaststroke where she was 36th of 40 swimmers.

In the 100m freestyle, Atkinson swam 59.61 seconds while stopping the clock at 2:44.17 seconds in the 200m breaststroke.

Tomorrow Atkinson will swim in the 50m breaststroke before going on to try the 400m Individual Medley on Sunday.

Hamilton's World Championships experience comes to an end today.
