Tesi Johnson, Gleaner Writer

ON THURSDAY evening the lawns of Trafalgar House on the compound of the British High Commission buzzed with laughter and light-hearted conversation as diplomats, ambassadors, and some of the pillars of Jamaican society, gathered to welcome the newly appointed British High Commissioner Jeremy Cresswell and his partner Dr. Barbara Munske.

The evening was not rife with formalities but was more of an occasion for the man and woman of the moment to socialise with those with whom they may have future working relationships. Mr. Cresswell showed his gregarious nature, as he moved across the venue sparking conversation with just about everyone.

VERY EXCITED

Mr. Cresswell indicates that he's very excited about his new position and looks forward to a wonderful experience in Jamaica. "I've had a very warm and welcoming reception," he said, "everyone has been so kind; from the Governor-General onwards." He also expressed a desire to learn more about different aspects of Jamaica's rich heritage and culture, namely, the music, sports - cricket in particular and also on the recommendation of the Governor-General, the rural areas of the island.

Among those who came out to show their support to the new British High Commissioner were: David Shields of the Jamaica Tourist Board; Christopher and Michelle Bovell; Foreign Affairs Minister K. D. Knight and his wife Dr. Pauline Knight; the Honduran Ambassador Carlos Matute; Collin Bowskill and his wife Jean; Member of Parliament Delroy Chuck; Joseph Matalon and his companion Bernadette McKinley and Senator Anthony Johnson..
