WESTERN BUREAU:

WHILE THE yuppies invaded Negril last weekend, adults took control of Groovy Grouper, Montego Bay, virtually eating every word from the mouth of the indomitable musical icon Ernie Smith and incomparable spinning of DJ Tony Mentol.

Crooning, dancing and chanting to the distinctive words of Smith's song 'Pitta Patta', which drummed the elegant all white Arabian setting, the Groovy Grouper team created the ideal atmosphere for the 1st Anniversary Full Moon Frolic last Saturday night.

And although there were no raindrops coming down on the thatch-roof bar and restaurant or the stretch of white sandy beach that hugged the area, the veteran's repertoire was as fitting as when he danced on stage like a 'cool cat' creating waves with Life is Just for Living.

All of 365 days had passed since the innovative 'all-white, glow all night' full moon party commenced at the world renowned Doctor's Cave Beach and the joint's general manager, June Pollack was bent on making it an unforgettable evening.

Transformed to look like the popular Sean 'P'Diddy' Coombs' all-white party in The Hamptons, the Groovy innovators placed a large king size canopied bed, made up with throw pillows, bolsters, cushions, and tailor-made slip covers at the entrance to the venue.

The bar area was spectacular as it took on the appearance of an Egyptian harem, with white fabric draped between each pole.

Beautifully adorning the white sandy beach were some 52 white lanterns, strung on white oriental bamboo poles, arched for a magnificent effect.

Those who wore white and partied all night included: Winston and Denise Dear, Michelle Tulloch, Glenn D. Harris, Steven and Gail Ueker, Nicola Delapehna, Stacy Ingram, Rondene Tomlinson, Jacqueline Williams, Devon Dobson and Karla Keene Shand and Roma Bailey Haye.

Others included: Veena and Denny Chandiram, Candice Hamilton, William 'Billy' Craig, June Pollack, Janice and Peter Williams, Richard Whitfield, Vee Redpath, Joan Johnson, Dr. Jacqueline Roberts, Jude Chassagne, Arthur Schreaton, Mark and Stacy Vanderelde, Curtis and Sally Grad and John Byles.
