THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE DEVELOPERS of Ensom City and Ensom Acres in St. Catherine some years ago used a piece of land which should have been a park to build houses. It was done with such rapidity that the Citizens' Association had no time to act. The houses were up in one day, because they were pre-fabricated. This land is on Ensom Avenue. This can be proven from the original plan of the housing scheme.
Recently, another piece of land which, on the said plan, should be used as a shopping centre was put in use - this time to build houses.
OVERCROWDING
My big concern is about the environment. There is now overcrowding, and lack of sufficient green areas. Furthermore, the sewage plant gives off a foul odour, especially at nights, and it overflows in some places.
The residents have protested about it on several occasions, but there is not much relief, and this is unhealthy. One protest led the former Mayor of Spanish Town to promise to alleviate the situation.
I have been looking as a concerned citizen, but I have not seen any positive action taken. The new buildings on Ensom Avenue will generate additional sewage. As far as I can see, there are no additional facilities to deal with this.
Could the authorities who should monitor such situations please investigate?
I am, etc.,
