NCU student drowns in France
published: Wednesday | August 17, 2005

ROMEL

TWENTY TWO-YEAR-OLD André Romel, a mass communications student at the Northern Caribbean University (NCU), drowned on Monday while on a tour of France.

Romel, who was on his summer break, was with a female friend, Khadi. They were both on a private trip to the European country for a modelling photo shoot, when the tragedy occurred.

WENT FOR A SWIM

Gary Thomas, a friend of the deceased, related that the two went for a swim in a river close to the place they were staying when Romel fell into difficulties and drowned.

He said investigations surrounding Romel's death are still being carried out in France.

Romel's body is expected to return to Jamaica by Friday, August 19 for funeral service at the university 's gymnatorium on August 28.

Romel, the first of four children for his mother, was born and raised in Lincoln, Manchester.

The third-year student, who enjoyed modelling, had travelled to several countries throughout his modelling career. This was reportedly the first time he was travelling to France. Romel is the third NCU student to have died under tragic circumstances during the last year.
