WESTERN BUREAU:
FIVE MEN, one of whom has been charged for illegal possession of ammunition, were detained during a three-hour police operation at Long Acre, Barracks Road, Montego Bay, yesterday morning.
The area, which forms part of Montego Bay's inner city, has been under the microscope of the lawmen following last Wednesday's shooting death on the neighbouring Hart Street of 30-year-old Milton Crombie Jr. by gunmen. Crombie's father, who was shot five times by unknown assailants a day later, is still in hospital receiving treatment.
According to Sergeant Paul Bernard, acting divisional detective inspector at the Montego Bay Criminal Investi-gation Branch (CIB), the operation was conducted between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and resulted in the seizure of 10 9mm rounds and a small quantity of ganja.
MAN SHOT
A young man was reportedly arrested in connection with the ammunition find but his name is being withheld pending police identification parades for other crimes including shooting and murder.
Nine other men, five of whom were processed and released, were also detained in the raid. Those remaining in custody are to be placed on ID parades.
Meanwhile, the Montego Bay CIB is probing the shooting of a 30-year-old man at Peace View, Albion, St. James, early Saturday morning. Reports are that about 6:30 a.m. the victim was on his way from a shop in the community when he saw five men walking towards him. It is said that they pulled guns and fired several shots in his direction.
He was shot in the chest, back and right hand. The injured man has been admitted in hospital in serious condition.
No motive has been established for the shooting.
