THE PEOPLE'S National Party (PNP) secretariat says it is prepared for the unprecedented number of candidates entering next month's vice-presidential race at the party's annual conference.

Last year, the party was caught flat-flooted with the last-minute announcement of Paul Burke, the former PNP Region Three chairman.

But not so this year, Deputy General Secretary Colin Campbell told The Gleaner yesterday.

"The conference schedule we agreed on last week included elections," he said.

The PNP's 57th annual conference will be held from September 9-11.

Last week, a number of candidates aligned to two of the presidential contenders, announced their candidacies for the four vice-presidential posts.

They are Harry Douglas, State Minister in the Ministry of Water and Housing, and Dr. Wykeham McNeill, State Minister in the Ministry of Tourism, and East Portland Councillor Dexter Roland all supporters of Dr. Peter Phillips.

Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke and Errol Ennis, State Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture, have reportedly thrown their hats into the ring on behalf of Portia Simpson Miller.

Meanwhile, presidential contender Robert Pickersgill yesterday pulled out of the race.
