FOR SEVEN years, she played it cautious waiting for him to make the first move. Though she liked him a lot she was very conservative. Susan Smith may have received all the ' I like you' signals from Carlyle Gordon but she wasn't about to jump to conclusions. In the past, she has seen many women in a similar position who were misled and ended up with a broken heart.
The former Miss Smith, 36, reporter at the Gleaner Company, met Mr. Gordon, a 38-y-o land surveyor, in 1990 on the evangelism field. They both attended the same church, Fellowship Tabernacle, she was a member of the church's singing group and he was in missions. Though they have seen each other around on many occasions, she only started realising that she liked him in 1995. Returning from a tour across America with a gospel band, she was on her way to the church's office when they ran into each other. When she saw him she thought, "wow!" After that day the two became friends.
While the couple were friends, they did many things together such as ministering to people. Though they spent time together, their relationship did not get serious until seven years later in 2002. They dated for about three years before Mr. Gordon popped the question.
"Last December, we were hanging as usual at my house when he told me he wanted to marry me," said the new Mrs Gordon.
MISHAPS
The couple wanted to get married last December but a number of unseen mishaps took place which delayed plans. However, they got married on Saturday July 30, at Kinsgate United Church on Hope Road, St. Andrew with Rev. Dr. Derik Davidson officiating. They tied the knot at 8:00 a.m. on what the new bride described as a 'perfect morning' in terms of the weather. The reception followed at Waterfalls in Liguanea and the newlyweds set off for their honeymoon at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay, St. James.
