WESTERN BUREAU:
RUSEA'S HIGH and Cornwall College will renew their rivalry this afternoon when they meet in an abridged version of the pre-season Roger Topey Memorial Shield competition.
The schools that have combined for 20 daCosta Cup titles started meeting in a two-match series in 2000 in memory of the former Rusea's goalkeeper Roger Topey who was killed in a car accident in 1998 while on his way to represent Hanover team Legend in a National Premier League game.
The format calls for the present daCosta Cup teams and an over-35 team from both schools to play against each other and the winners are decided on the aggregate score of the two games. However, only one game will be played today, the daCosta Cup teams will meet at 3:30 p.m. as they continue preparations for the start of the season in two weeks time.
The series was not played last year, but Rusea's won their second title when the teams last met in 2003. In one meeting between both teams this off-season, Cornwall beat Rusea's 2-0 at Jarrett Park in August.
Cornwall are coming off two good results, drawing 1-1 against Munro in Montego Bay on Saturday and trouncing Merlene Ottey High 6-0 on Monday.
