Morgan impresses for Boys' Town
published: Sunday | September 4, 2005

Boys' Town's Colin Oldham fends off a challenge from Tivoli's Horace Howell in action from the Life of Jamaica/Pan Carribean sponsored Presidents Cup yesterday at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium. Boys' Town won the encounter 1-0 and have advanced to today's semis at the same venue.

NEWCOMER MARVIN Morgan made an impressive start for recently promoted Boys' Town as he scored to give them a 1-0 victory over his former side, Tivoli, in the Life of Jamaica/Pan Caribbean Presidents' Cup football competition at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium yesterday.

In an evenly-contested game Morgan, who signed from Tivoli in the off season, made the difference when a well-weighted square from Michael Campbell saw him control the ball and fire past Tivoli goalkeeper Damion Crooks from close range and give his team the go-ahead goal in the 20th minute and a first-half lead.

Tivoli controlled play at the start of the second half and an equaliser looked on the cards but it did not materialise as they failed to find the defining pass that would have made the difference in the final third.

TURN FOR THE WORST

Their chances of coming back from the deficit took a turn for the worst when Richard Morgan was sent off after having been given a second yellow card for an off-the-ball incident.

However, the Tivoli side that played was not a first-string one and was a combination of prospective players and a few Under-21 squad members as manager Brian Rose was unwilling to risk injury to any key players with the start of the National Premier League season a week away. Nonetheless, Boys' Town coach Andrew Price was glad for the victory.

"We don't want to read too much into the win as we are getting used to a lot of new players," Price said. "We got an opportunity for the players to go out there and express themselves. It's always good to win and we want to get into that habit from now," he remarked.

Boys' Town will now face Constant Spring who got by Arnett Gardens 3-2 in today's first semi-final at 3:00 pm.

In the day's other fixture, Harbour View defeated Coorville Gardens 2-1. At press time Waterhouse and Police National were still on the pitch, the winner will face Harbour View in today's second semi-final. The games, of 60 minutes duration, will be followed by the final.
