FOR MANY people in the main town of St. Thomas, yesterday's Jamaica Labour Party (JLP)-led protest, was an opportunity to show their anger against the recent increase in gas, utility bills and basic food items.
The most dramatic scene took place in the busy district of Top York, Seaforth, where the police had to used teargas to disperse scores of residents who staged a massive roadblock in the area.
TEARGAS
Students on their way to school, along with motorists who got trapped in the long line of traffic, were affected by the burning sensation of teargas. Even some members of the police party were seen wiping their watery eyes.
"One man at this location (Seaforth) was arrested," said Acting Detective Deputy Superintendent, who spoke with The Gleaner at the scene.
