THE BRUTAL killing of a 16-year-old youth outside the gates of the Maverley All-Age and Junior High School in north-west St. Andrew yesterday has left scores of students traumatised and teachers dismissing classes early.
"The shooting took place while the students were being supervised in classes; some were shaken, and others were really traumatised. Even some of the teachers were left traumatised," a senior teacher at the school told The Gleaner yesterday.
Reports are that the teenager, Richard Bogle, of Alexander Road, Kingston 13, was standing near to a cluster of vendors who were selling outside the school gate. He was eating lunch when two men attacked him, pumping several bullets into his body.
"It was very sad. The young man was still clutching the box food," the teacher said.Vendors who looked at the body were left distraught, some holding their heads in disbelief.
OUT OF CUSTODY
Bogle, a past student of the school, apparently had a brush with the law. The police reported that he was released from custody about three weeks ago.
"He was questioned about a case of shooting," said Acting Deputy Superintendent of Police Michael Phipps.
While the police have not yet established a motive for the murder, Bogle is among a number of persons who have been killed in an ongoing gang feud in that community. The violence has also affected school attendance at the Maverley All-Age and Junior High.
