Tropical depression 17
published: Sunday | September 18, 2005

At 5:00 p.m. yesterday, the centre of tropical depression number 17 was located near latitude 13.8 degrees north and longitude 55.2 degrees west or about 470 kilometres east of Barbados.

The depression is moving towards the northwest near 15 km/h and this motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. Maximum sustained winds are near 55 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast and the depression was expected to become a tropical storm by last night. According to the Met office, the tropical depression is not a threat to Jamaica at this time.
