WESTERN BUREAU:

JAMES THOMAS scored twice as defending champions Glenmuir cruised to a 2-0 win over Central High to win their third straight game in Zone I of the ISSA Pepsi/JN daCosta Cup schoolboys' football competition.

Thomas, who has scored in all three games played so far, took his personal tally to six on the season joint top with Cornwall College's Richard Edmonson and one more than teammate Carnell Learmond, Davian Green of Ocho Rios High and Renorio Downswell of STETHS.

The win kept Glenmuir atop Zone I on nine points, three more than Garvey Maceo who beat Vere Technical 3-0.

Kemps Hill, with two goals each from Manzie MacKenzie, Raymond Thomas and Davin McKay, hammered Bustamante High 9-0, the biggest margin of victory on the day.

Four other schools also kept their perfect winning records intact yesterday, Grange Hill, Godfrey Stewart, Denbigh and St Thomas Technical all scored wins.

Grange Hill took over the lead in Zone B after a 4-1 come-from-behind win over Cambridge as André Patterson scored a hat-trick and Janique Thomas got his third of the season.

Former winners Rusea's were held goalless by Merlene Ottey at Pondside while Frome played to a 2-2 draw with Knockalva.

Godfrey Stewart edged Black River High 1-0 in Savanna-la-Mar ending their unbeaten record, thanks to a second-half goal from Ryan Smith.

The game started more than half an hour late due to spectator encroachment on the side lines and had to be stopped twice for the same reason.

Denbigh scored their third win in a row in Zone H after beating Kellits 3-0 and St Thomas Technical edged Seaforth 1-0.
