ASCOT'S UNBEATEN run in the ISSA/Pepsi/JN Manning Cup football competition came to an end after they were beaten 2-0 in St. Catherine at Ferdie Neita Park yesterday.
The Portmore-based Ascot dominated the second half after finding themselves trailing 1-0 courtesy of a Chevavine Blake's 45th minute strike, but could not find the back of the net.
They tormented the St. Catherine defence, especially late in the second half and at one stage came close to scoring but a poor shot by Dwayne Wright let them down.
On the stroke of full-time Troy Martin sealed three points and buried Ascot's hopes of salvaging a point with an 18-yard powerhouse shot which beat Ascot's goalkeeper Gary Miller to his left.
St. Catherine's coach Michael Small expressed delight at the 2-0 win.
"It's good to come here and take three points," he said.
He added that they have a goalscoring problem but improved yesterday.
"When we played this team at home we should have given them about eight (8-0)," he said.
Losing coach Vance Grant said inferior midfield play cost his boys.
"We gave up the midfield totally," he said.
"We came in the second half and dominated play for about 25 minutes and then gave it up again. We could have played better," he added.
