CSEC WHIZ-KIDS - High achiever hopes to become a lawyer
published: Wednesday | October 5, 2005

Petrina Francis, Education Reporter

GREEN

ACHIEVING NINE distinctions and one credit in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations is no ordinary feat.

But Gregory Green of Ardenne High School in St. Andrew proved that through hard work and time management it could be done.

Gregory, who is a member of Jamaica Youth Theatre, said he only had two weeks to prepare for his examinations but knew he could have performed well.

The 17-year-old, who is very involved in drama, said he performed at Emancipation Park the night before his information technology and biology examinations but that he still managed to gain top marks in both subjects.

He attributes his success to time management, putting God first, and good and supportive teachers.

Apart from being involved in drama, Gregory is a member of the French and 4H clubs.

The eldest of four children for Sophia Douglas, a stenographer, Gregory hopes to become a lawyer because he loves to debate and that is where his passion lies.

SIXTH FORMER

He is currently at Ardenne sixth form where he is studying sociology, literatures in English, French and Caribbean history as well as communication studies.

A devout Christian at Bethel Chapel Pentecostal Assemblies in Spanish Town, Gregory lives by the philosophy, "put God first and strive for the best".

His encouragement for his peers is that "the only way to success is through disciplined hard work along with socialisation. Too much fun will not do it."

Gregory gained distinctions in English language, English literature, information technology, food and nutrition, accounts, Caribbean history, mathematics, French, biology and a credit for geography.
