LOCAL DISTRIBUTION giant, CARI-MED Ltd. has taken over the operations of Colgate-Palmolive Jamaica.
The Colgate-Palmolive Company yesterday confirmed the move, stating that it is one component of a wider partnership between the two companies.
Colgate announced that it is partnering with CARI-MED, to manage the sales and distribution of Colgate products as well as to assist Colgate in expanding it's business in the region.
As a result of this consolidation, Colgate-Palmolive Jamaica is selling its property in Kingston to Cari-Med Ltd., Colgate Palmolive stated.
"The Colgate business will be operated separately from Cari-Med, with all operations and distributions to be handled by a newly-formed company, Kirk Distributors," stated Glen Christian, the chairman and chief executive officer of CARI-MED Ltd.
STRATEGIC ALLIANCE
The CARI-MED boss described the venture as a strategic alliance that will benefit all stake holders, adding that any changes made will be for the good, including a possible increase in employment at the Colgate headquarters on Marcus Garvey Drive.
He stated that employees at the Colgate-Palmolive Jamaica will be made redundant by December. But he said this is simply a formality due to the change in ownership, as all current employees will be rehired in January by a newly formed company, Kirk Distributors.
Colgate-Palmolive is the leading international seller of toothpaste, and a world leader in oral care products. The company stated that it has been conducting business with Cari-Med for many years, and is confident that the 'strategic alliance' will be mutually beneficial.
Cari-Med is currently local distributors of approximately 40 national and trans-national entities from across the globe.
