THE EDITOR, Sir:
THIS IS my Gleaner response to 'a pressing issue' raised by the writers of 'My Friend P with C' in the Thursday Star of September 28 (page 8), as to whether Adventists have sex on the Sabbath!
As an SDA Christian, let me tell you right off the bat, sex is a joy created by God to be had decisively on any day, if not, especially on the Sabbath! Sex is a "Holy, Holy, Holy!" institution made by God for man and woman in marriage which is consummated by the act, and sanctified by that fact that God wants man to delight himself in the Lord and not in sin.
The fact that there are Adventist couples against sex on the Sabbath brings to mind at least two things:
The apostle Paul dealt with certain issues where he justified the freedom of certain practices yet telling debating parties "Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind" (Romans 14:5). The sanctity of sex on the Sabbath is explained con-vincingly as far as I am concerned by family life specialist Pastor Gordon Martinborough in his excellent 'Happy Family Bible Seminar'.
I see the apostle Peter as an example of a Christian who had to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ" (II Peter 3: 18), when the Lord put him through circumstances that helped him lose his prejudice for Gentiles insofar as he declared "God has shown me that I should NOT CALL ANY MAN [no mention of food this time as] common or unclean." (Acts 10: 28). Today some couples need to be enlightened on sex on the Sabbath. The Sabbath and woman were made for (and not against) man (See Mark 2:27 cf I Corinthians 11:9).
I am, etc.,
